Rowan is an incredibly smart, food-motivated puppy who learns routines fast. Once he understands his schedule, he follows it beautifully, including meals, potty breaks, crate time, and insulin injections. He handles his injections like a champ and even did amazing with his glucose monitor placement. We've collected great information to help regulate his diabetes, and he continues to improve every week.
Despite being diabetic, Rowan is still very much a happy, playful puppy. He loves people, enjoys meeting new dogs, and is not reactive toward cats. He can have that classic "big scary shepherd bark" when excited, but he redirects easily and pays attention well. He's eager to learn and genuinely wants to please his people.
Some of Rowan's favorite things include snuggling close after playtime, learning new commands for treats, following his daily routine, being everyone's personal alarm clock for breakfast, and making new friends everywhere he goes. He does great both in and out of a crate. Because he drinks more water due to diabetes, he uses pee pads during the day for in-between potty breaks and has adjusted incredibly well to a consistent routine with very few accidents.
One thing that stands out most about Rowan is how emotionally intelligent he is. He has quickly learned boundaries and reads other dogs' cues beautifully. He's thoughtful, observant, and surprisingly mature for a puppy who has already overcome so much. Rowan feels less like a "special needs" dog and more like a really incredible dog who happens to need insulin. He is sweet, resilient, cuddly, hilarious, and deeply lovable. Truly a gem of a puppy looking for someone willing to love him as much as he'll love them back.
