About Tommy

Tommy is a sweet 10-month-old terrier mix who weighs about 27 lbs and is expected to grow to around 37 lbs. He was rescued with his mother in Matamoros, Mexico, and was born at the shelter on April 10, 2024. Tommy is a docile, affectionate, playful, and loving boy who is learning to trust people. He can be a little shy and nervous around new people, but he loves to run and play with his dog friends. Tommy is looking for a family who understands the unique needs of rescued animals and can offer him patience and love as he continues to learn and grow.

Ideal Home

Tommy would thrive in a home with families who have an open conscience about the realities of rescuing street animals and understand their need for protection and education. An experienced dog handler with a background in dog behavior and training is ideal. High tolerance and patience for a rescued puppy are a must, as Tommy may have been traumatized before coming to us and will likely need an adjustment period. He is not house-trained, and adopters must be prepared for this.

Ongoing Health

Tommy has received comprehensive veterinary care, including a spay/neuter certificate, two DHPPI vaccines, a rabies vaccine, a Bordetella vaccine, deworming, and microchipping. He has also had a 4DX test and certificate, a negative heartworm test certificate, and is on monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive for fleas, ticks, and heartworm. He has a health certificate and vaccine booklet.

Training & Support

Tommy is not house-trained. Adopters should be aware that rescue dogs may have experienced trauma and require patience and understanding during their adjustment period.

Transporation

Tommy is currently being fostered in Matamoros, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on our next cross-country trip. Transport is available to the adopter's home address for an additional fee.
