Rufio

Meet Rufio, a charming Cane Corso mix who currently weighs 66 pounds, but his foster mom is diligently working to get him to his ideal weight of 75 pounds. This sweet boy was rescued from the streets in early January 2026 and is slowly learning that he can trust humans.

Rufio is a shy and quiet fellow with a gentle temperament. It may take a little time for him to warm up to new people, but he quickly bonded with his foster mom, following her around, seeking affection, and enjoying snuggles on the couch and bed. He truly loves his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the 9-year-old being his absolute favorite! While he's a bit intimidated by his foster dad and tends to shy away, he has shown no aggression, and his foster family is taking things slow with him.

Ideal Home

Rufio would thrive in a patient home environment where he can continue to build his confidence and feel safe and loved. He enjoys calm, well-mannered canine companions who can help him come out of his shell.

Ongoing Health

Rufio is currently underweight and his foster family is working on helping him reach his target weight.

Training & Support

Rufio is house-trained and signals when he needs to go outside. He is also crate-trained for when his family is away and sleeps soundly through the night, either in his crate or in his humans' bed. While he occasionally whimpers when excited or unsure, he is not a vocal dog. He does emit a funny howl when his foster mom leaves, which lasts only a couple of minutes. He's working on his leash manners, which are already quite good.

Rufio is located in Houston, TX, but can be transported to most states for an additional fee of $300.
