Meet Melvin, a joyful 3-year-old Hound mix who weighs around 65 lbs! This happy-go-lucky boy was rescued from a rural Louisiana shelter and arrived with his hound nose on a mission, eager to explore. Melvin is a loving boy searching for his forever family. He's had all his vaccinations, preventions, is neutered, and has completed heartworm treatment. He's been vet-cleared and is ready to find his perfect home! Melvin has high energy and is quite vocal when he needs to go out, come in, or when it's mealtime. He gets along well with other dogs and has made many friends, including the cats at his foster mom's house. He enjoys running around the yard and sniffing out all the smells, but he settles down quickly to enjoy a good nap. Melvin loves spending time with people and especially enjoys head rubs. He calms down quickly after his adventures and enjoys relaxing in his kennel.
Ideal Home
Melvin would thrive in a home where he has space to run and explore. He is able to jump a 4-foot fence, so a 6-foot fence is recommended to keep him safe while he chases interesting scents.
Ongoing Health
Melvin has completed heartworm treatment and is vet-cleared. His adoption fee covers all medical costs up to adoption, including neuter and heartworm treatment.
Training & Support
Melvin is crate trained and patiently waits to go potty. He knows commands like "come," "sit," and "kennel." He is still learning not to pull on the leash, but he's making great progress. He enjoys car rides.
