About Nellie
Meet Nellie, a 50 lb, 18-month-old girl with a soulful nature and a mature demeanor that will make you question her young age! Nellie is truly beautiful inside and out, with all the makings of a best friend. She's happy to be a "girl's girl" and a "daddy's girl" to the right person.
On a typical day, you'll find Nellie relaxing by your side, either curled up close for cuddles or happily entertaining herself with her vast collection of stuffed toys. Occasionally, her silly side emerges, and you'll see glimpses of puppy behavior as she flops around like a goose or brings you a rope toy for a game of tug!
When Nellie first arrived in foster care, she was nervous in the outside world. However, with consistent support and reassurance from her foster family, she blossomed into a brave butterfly! Nellie has adapted wonderfully to living in a quiet suburban setting and is now adjusting very well to a New York City transplant, unfazed by bustling scooters, fire trucks, kids, and dogs.
Nellie is fully potty trained and crate trained. She enters her crate on command, settles in for an 8-hour workday, and sleeps soundly through the night without protest. On leash, Nellie is a dream, a true "loose leash queen" who allows you to enjoy your morning coffee without chaotic pulling. She's extremely treat motivated, both on and off leash. Outdoors, Nellie has mastered her "look" command, checking in with her handler and immediately redirecting her attention to her safe space when faced with something scary, like tall men approaching quickly in hats.
Nellie has learned that meeting people outside first and then welcoming them into her home is a privilege. She is most comfortable and confident in her sanctuary. Once she gives you the okay, expect her to offer you a toy from her collection as a gesture of friendship. Nellie is a perfect apartment dog, alerting you to deliveries or people lingering too close for comfort. Once you acknowledge her alert and all is well, she's eager to return to her chill self.
Nellie is currently being fostered with a feline friend and they are co-existing beautifully. Nellie has shown no aggression or fixation towards her kitty companion, valuing her toys and treats much more.
Nellie is a quintessential couch companion who will thrive in a home that doesn't take life too seriously and can remind her when to let loose and live. Her ability to grow her confidence while showing up in the world with such softness is remarkable. If you value genuine relationship building and bond sharing, Nellie might just be your life partner.
