Bella came to us due to an unfortunate situation. Her loving mom, who had adopted her just over a year ago, had fallen ill and needed to go into a care facility. She couldn't take Bella with her and had to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender her. Bella found herself, for the second time in two years, without a home to call her own.
Bella is a sweet and loving dog who adores people. She's happy to meet new friends anywhere she goes and always wants pets, even from strangers! At 11 years old, she'll still jump up to greet you with kisses, even if you've just met. She's a homebody at heart. In the morning, she'll reluctantly go outside with you, but if you don't wake her, she'll happily snooze until lunch. In the afternoon, she perks up a bit and enjoys a leisurely neighborhood stroll. She can be a puller on leash and may react by barking and pulling towards dogs she passes, though sometimes she just ignores them. Bella is very smart and knows many tricks, which she'll happily show off in exchange for attention or treats! She'd love to continue learning new things in her future home.
Naturally, with the changes in her life, Bella has some anxiety. She doesn't like to be overstimulated, so walks in calm places are best for her. She also dislikes being left alone and being in a crate. Her foster has been patiently working with her to help her feel safer, and she's currently on medication to ease her anxiety. When you're home with her, she loves to cuddle, ask for belly rubs, and play with her toys, but when you leave, she barks and is uneasy. When she’s alone is almost the only time you’ll hear her voice; otherwise, she's a very quiet dog.
Ideal Home
Bella's ideal home is one where someone is always home, especially at first, and where her family is willing to continue working with her so she can feel safe when left alone. She would love a home with a yard where she can play fetch, a game she adores! While she could live in an apartment or condo, her bark is loud, which could be an issue while she's still learning to be alone.
Ongoing Health
Bella has had dental work and only has a few remaining teeth, but she eats her kibble with ease. She has had urinary crystals in the past, but these are very well controlled when she is on her prescribed urinary diet.
Training & Support
Bella can be a puller on leash and may react to other dogs. She also experiences separation anxiety and dislikes being alone or crated. Patience, a calm environment, and continued work on building her confidence when left alone will be key to her success.
