Oakley

Oakley is a charming Beagle who will be turning 2 years old on June 29, 2026. He's a handsome 13-inch boy with a beautiful Black, Red, and White coat. Oakley is ready to find his forever home and bring joy to his new family!

Before coming to us, Oakley did not receive any prior veterinary care or training and was reportedly kenneled for extended periods. He has since undergone extensive training and has been well-socialized. He's a bright boy who is potty trained, crate trained, leash trained, and bath trained. He knows basic commands and has been a joy to work with.

Ongoing Health

Oakley has been fully vaccinated (Bordetella, Rabies, DAP, Lyme/Lepto), microchipped, and has undergone health and DNA testing. He is up-to-date on his heartworm and flea & tick preventatives. His DNA and genetic panel results will be transferred to his new owner, and a copy of his early detection bloodwork will be included in his vet records.

Oakley has two increased risks and two notables in his genetic background:

• Risk for IVDD: Like many purebred Beagles, Oakley has a predisposition for Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) due to his anatomy. Maintaining a healthy weight and ensuring regular exercise can help decrease the risk of developing this condition. Joint and spine/disc supplements after age 8 can also be beneficial.
• Risk for Mast Cell Tumor: Oakley is at risk for developing mast cell tumors, which typically present after 7 years of age. Regular yearly veterinary care, including radiography, can aid in early detection if this develops.
• Notable: Progressive Retinal Atrophy: Oakley carries the gene for progressive retinal atrophy.
• Notable: Lower than average ALT activity: Oakley has lower than average ALT activity.

Training & Support

Oakley is house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. He knows basic commands and is well-socialized. He is also trained for baths and grooming.
