Canela

Canela is a bright, loving, and full-of-life young dog with the heart and spirit of an Australian Kelpie. She's approximately 1 year old and weighs around 33 lbs. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and high energy, Kelpies thrive with active people, and Canela is no exception! She walks well on a leash and is incredibly social with both dogs and people. Canela has a playful and funny personality; she'll even jump up like a tiny Chihuahua, hoping for cuddles! She's energetic, curious, and always ready for fun, making her an ideal companion for someone who enjoys walks, exercise, or an active lifestyle.

Canela was found alone playing in the street and, fearing for her safety, was taken in. Since then, she has shown nothing but love, resilience, and a wonderful spirit. She is ready to find a forever home where she can share her energy, affection, and loyal heart, becoming an incredibly devoted and fun-loving companion.

Ideal Home

Canela would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. She needs a family with a genuine intention to rescue a dog and an open mind about the behaviors of rescued street animals, understanding their need for protection and education. Experience with dog behavior and training is highly recommended, or a willingness to hire a trainer is essential for this intelligent pup. She requires high tolerance and patience, as she is not house-trained.

Ongoing Health

Canela has received a spay/neuter certificate, DHPPI and Rabies vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, has been dewormed, and is microchipped. She has also had a 4DX test and certificate, a negative heartworm test certificate, and receives monthly preventive protection with Nexgard Spectra. A health certificate and vaccination booklet are also provided.

Training & Support

Canela can get bored if she doesn’t have enough stimulation, which may lead to chewing on objects, especially plastic. Providing her with plenty of toys and guidance will help her thrive. She may also bark when she hears unfamiliar noises, as she is naturally alert. It's important to understand that rescued dogs may require an adjustment period due to past experiences and may have fears or anxieties. Patience, a safe and loving environment, and establishing a routine will help build trust and strengthen your bond.

• Fill out our adoption form.
• Send photos/videos of your home to ensure your future furry friend will be safe.
• If it's a match, we will call or video chat to introduce you to the pet and conduct a virtual home tour.
• We will speak with 1–2 of your references.
• If approved, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which covers vet care, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, food, and more.

Transporation

Canela is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on a cross-country trip. A one-time transport fee of $400 USD covers door-to-door delivery. Our contracted transport company organizes scheduled trips 3-4 times a year, collecting adopted pets in Mexico and escorting them across the border into Texas for US adoptions. Real-time updates are provided through a private Facebook Messenger group, and the transport team will conduct a final home review upon delivery.
