Silver is an 8-month-old German Shepherd x Malamute mix with a gorgeous silver and black coat and a long, fluffy tail. She's currently 46lbs but her big paws suggest she'll grow to be around 60-75lbs. Silver is a calm and curious girl who, despite initial shyness, deeply desires companionship. She was an unclaimed stray and needed time to come out of her shell, but her playful and cuddly personality is now shining through. She loves to be with her people and will happily settle by your side while you work or relax. Silver is also a great sleeper, enjoying up to 12 hours of rest!
Ideal Home
Silver would thrive in a quiet and patient home with individuals experienced in helping shy dogs gain confidence. A detached house with a backyard would be ideal for her to enjoy her yard time. She's learning to play gently with the cat in her foster home and enjoys the company of a male dog who is up for wrestling and running. Silver is still learning about children and is best suited for a home with gentle, older teens. She is not recommended for homes with young children due to her skittishness around quick movements and loud noises.
Ongoing Health
Silver has been diagnosed with Heartworm disease, which is a preventable illness. She is currently symptom-free and in good health otherwise. She is nearing the end of her treatment plan and has an excellent prognosis for a full recovery. She is microchipped and up-to-date on vaccines.
Training & Support
Silver needs continued work on socialization and calm introductions to new people and environments. She is skittish around new people, quick movements, and loud noises but is making progress. She is doing well with crate training when she has company but barks when left alone. While she can be house-trained with a consistent schedule, she isn't yet confident to ask to go out. She walks well on a leash but requires a strong handler due to her size and enthusiasm. Consistent, structured training, including dog school, will be highly beneficial for her confidence and trust-building.
