About Mac

Mac and his friend Cheese arrived at a busy Los Angeles shelter as strays. Sadly, they were not reclaimed and were at risk of euthanasia. We welcomed them both as Frosted Faces on May 4th. Kennel life was stressful for them, but leaving that environment completely changed everything for these sweet seniors. They love people and attention, climbing into laps and giving tons of kisses. They are still quite spry at nine years old.

Fortunately, Mac and Cheese have been with a loving foster family for the past month to decompress and give us the opportunity to learn about them in a home environment. Their foster family shares this amazing update:

"We've had the absolute pleasure of hosting Mac and Cheese on an extended Fling this past month. While their names go perfectly together, these two sweet seniors are not a bonded pair and are looking for their own independent forever homes! They have very different personalities and lifestyles, so they can easily be adopted separately. We are going to continue fostering them while they look for their perfect matches!

Here's the inside scoop on this wonderful duo: Meet Mac: The Active, Fetch-Loving Gentleman. Mac is an incredibly sweet, smart boy who would thrive as a solo dog where he can be the center of attention and get all the love. The Best Parts: He is 100% potty trained (zero accidents or marking!) and is an absolute dream in public. He is a fantastic walking buddy who can easily handle a mile or more, and he loves to play fetch with a tennis ball or toss around his favorite stuffed whale. He also lives for sunbathing. His Quirks & Boundaries: Mac is a total sweetheart, but he does appreciate having a dedicated "do not disturb" zone when he is unwinding. When he's tucked into his dog bed, he prefers his personal space and will give a soft growl or lift a lip if a person or dog gets within about 5 feet or tries to handle his toys while he's resting. Outside of his cozy spot, he has no issues with food or resource guarding at all! He just needs a home that respects his sanctuary space when he's off the clock, which is why he'd be perfect as an only pup. Home Alone: He gets a little anxious and cries right when you leave, but he settles down quickly and goes to sleep in his bed.

Meet Cheese: The Easygoing, Mellow Sweetheart. Cheese is a gentle, low-maintenance soul who just wants a quiet place to relax. The Best Parts: Cheese is incredibly easygoing. She is friendly with every single person and animal she meets, has zero resource guarding issues, and is mostly just a mellow girl who gets excited for mealtime and otherwise loves to lounge. The Quirks to Know: Cheese is still mastering her potty training. She has accidents in the house, especially if left alone for more than an hour, but she will use pee pads, and her training is actively improving! Because she doesn't thrive in a shelter kennel environment, we are so glad she can stay with us where she feels safe to keep learning. Unlike Mac, she is not a fan of long walks and prefers to keep her exercise short and sweet. Home Alone: She eventually relaxes and curls up in her bed for a snooze.

Out and About with Mac & Cheese: Neither dog quite knows their name yet, but they both have excellent recall if you yell "Come here!" They are also fabulous patio partners! We took them to a brewery in La Mesa where they both just relaxed in their beds, people-watched, and enjoyed treats while we had a beer. They also did wonderfully on a busy walk at Lake Murray-completely non-reactive to all the people and passing dogs (though Mac did give a sassy look to a goose that got a little too close!).

Whether you are looking for an active fetch-partner like Mac, or a couch-potato companion like Cheese, these two have so much love to give!"
