Michael Phelps and Lima are two charming 10-pound Jack Russell Terrier mixes, estimated to be between 2 and 5 years old. They are survivors who found their way to us from a difficult hoarding situation in Phillipsburg, where they were among many dogs abandoned in Sussex County. After months of patient care and reassurance, they've discovered that people can be kind and that the world isn't as scary as they once thought.
Michael Phelps, initially very shut down and even swam across a pond to avoid rescuers, has undergone an incredible transformation. He's now the life of the party and a huge snuggle bug! He loves playing with other dogs, zooming around the yard, and hoarding his favorite toys. His goofy antics bring endless laughter, and he's always up for some fun.
Lima is the more reserved and gentle soul of the pair. While he takes a little time to warm up and trust, he has a heart of gold. He enjoys the company of other dogs and truly thrives in a calm environment where he can continue to build his confidence at his own pace. Both Michael and Lima would benefit greatly from a home with another friendly dog to show them the ropes and support their ongoing social development.
While they are not bonded and can be adopted individually, adopting them together could certainly make their transition into a new home smoother, allowing them to continue offering each other comfort and confidence.
Ideal Home
A home with a securely fenced yard is a must, as both dogs can be escape artists when startled. They would do best in a home with older, considerate children or no children, as the unpredictable nature and energy of younger kids might overwhelm them. Patient adopters who understand that dogs from challenging backgrounds need extra time to adjust and build trust will be key to their success.
