About Jasper

Jasper came in with a snout full of porcupine quills! They were removed that night on Christmas Eve, 2023. Jasper is approximately 4 years old and a little timid at first, but if you have some food and are willing to give some hugs, belly rubs, or neck scratches, he will become your best friend! He's a perfect, medium size weighing in at 55 pounds with a shiny black coat, and he loves cuddles. He'd make a great lap dog if you let him, though he'd have to be invited up on the couch, as he appears to have good manners. With a little practice, he'll be a pro at anything he needs to learn. He doesn't jump up on you, so kids would be okay with this guy. He gets along with other dogs if properly introduced but does not like cats. He loves to go on walks and has been really good on a leash, walking sedately on the side or slightly ahead. He likes to throw around a stuffed toy and play with another dog when given the chance. He is a lovable guy and very food-motivated, so additional training should be a piece of cake. He was adopted for a while (over a year) then returned due to his owner changing jobs, as Jasper developed separation anxiety and did not like being crated. Separation anxiety is developed due to humans and is easily trainable if kept consistent. His ears are a huge plus, as he listens well. He knows sit, shake, and come, and is well acquainted with his name. He is the most gentle boy about taking treats and doesn't even want to lick food off a plate until it's on the ground. He has a great foundation; he just needs someone willing to work with some separation anxiety.

Ideal Home

Jasper would do well in a home where he is invited onto the couch for cuddles. He does not like cats.

Ongoing Health

All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (if over 2 years old), vaccinated, dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped before adoption.

Training & Support

Jasper has some separation anxiety and dislikes being crated, but this is trainable with consistency. He knows sit, shake, and come. He is very food-motivated and gentle when taking treats.
