Ben is a wonderful companion for someone looking to open their home to this sweet, sleek, walk-enthusiastic boy! This 70lb, black Greyhound was born on November 28, 2018. Ben is a great dog for someone looking for a 'roommate' kind of dog. He loves gentle pets and a rub down when you return from walks, and sometimes he will approach you for gentle pats. But generally speaking, he is totally happy to just chill on his dog beds or a rug and watch you while you go about your day at home. He has been fine being home alone for up to 8 hours and has not had any accidents indoors or caused any mischief. He is always excited to go for a little walk or a car ride. In car rides, he has gone from panting and staying standing to cozying up right away and loving to hang out in the back seat. He has done well in an apartment but likes his space, so it would be a good idea to have a few designated spots for him. He easily does stairs and elevator rides.
Ideal Home
Ben would do best in a home without young children, cats, or small dogs. He needs a home where he can have designated spaces for comfort when he needs some alone time.
Ongoing Health
Ben is a healthy boy with no known health conditions.
Training & Support
On walks, Ben can be nervous around other dogs and may whine or bark. While he hasn't had an incident, his behavior shows he is not comfortable interacting with strangers or other dogs. Diced-up hot dogs have proven to be a great distraction. Ongoing training will be needed to help him feel safe on walks. Ben also exhibits signs of resource guarding with his food bowl and certain toys. Patience and training will be key to helping him feel safe when people are near his food or toys. Ms. Rosyn, the kennel trainer, can provide tips and strategies to help with this ongoing learning process.
