Iris was pulled from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings and is now the last of her litter waiting for her forever home. This 3.5-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and ready to find a family to call her own. Iris is a compact 47 pounds of pure joy and sweetness! She's goofy, playful, and affectionate, though she needs a little time to warm up to new people and dogs. Once Iris trusts you, she is all in and will shower you with kisses and belly rubs! She knows "sit," "down," and "wait," and absolutely adores a good game of fetch.
Ideal Home
Iris would be a dream for someone working from home, but she truly belongs in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails or open space, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. An adult-only home is best, as she hasn't been around young children and her fear reactivity means she needs an environment where her boundaries are respected. She does best with slow, intentional introductions to other dogs and would thrive in a home where she can set the pace.
Ongoing Health
Iris is up-to-date on all vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She can be left to free roam in a home office when other dogs are present, or the entire house if she is the only pet, with no accidents or destructive behavior. Iris does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so she should be fed separately if there are other dogs in the home. With consistency and training, this is very workable. She can be reactive on leash when dogs get too close, so an owner who knows how to create distance and set her up for success is ideal.
