Aubrey is a 4-year-old, 26lb Basenji/Terrier mix who is spayed and ready to find her forever home! Aubrey is a sweet and gentle soul with soulful eyes, looking for a patient adopter to help her build trust. She loves peanut butter, bully sticks, and curling up in a comfy dog bed. While she can be shy and a bit skittish initially with new people, once she feels safe and comfortable, she's incredibly affectionate, enjoying gentle petting, head rubs, and face licks. She's not a big barker, but when she does vocalize, she's trying to communicate something important. Aubrey is looking for a calm, suburban environment where she can feel secure. She's already done well with foster-to-adopt, showing she can adjust with time and patience.
Ideal Home
Aubrey would thrive in a calm, suburban area away from loud noises and commotion. She's a "country mouse" at heart and can be anxious in busy city environments. A home with a yard would be wonderful for her potty needs. She would be okay with older children (12 years and up) and would likely do well in a home with another dog, as she has shown indifference to dogs on leash. Her prey drive can be activated by squirrels and sometimes cats, so a watchful eye would be needed in environments with small animals.
Ongoing Health
Aubrey is healthy and up-to-date on her DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines. She has also been spayed and microchipped, and received dewormer upon intake.
Training & Support
Aubrey requires time and patience to build trust with new people. She is working on potty training and would do best with a yard. She can be a bit "stealthy" when it comes to chewing on small items like paper, but she is not aggressive about it. She is also working on leash manners, sometimes attempting to take the lead. While she's adjusting to being alone, she may bark for a minute or two initially before settling down. She is crate trained and comfortable in her crate.
