Meet Dani!

Dani is a devoted four-year-old American Pitbull Terrier/Labrador Retriever mix whose essence is a soulful blend of resilience wrapped in a sleek black coat with bright white accents. Weighing 52 pounds, this medium-sized girl carries herself with quiet strength and an even bigger heart! Dani’s story began on the streets of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she was found as a young pup facing tremendous medical challenges. Through attentive care and steady devotion, she regained her health and blossomed into the deeply bonded, affectionate companion she is today. She still carries small scars on her paws, gentle reminders of her early chapters, but her spirit is full of warmth and loyalty.

With her people, Dani is extraordinarily loving! She is a full-on bed sleeper who happily curls close, sometimes “purring” softly when she feels especially content. She forms a deep emotional bond with her people and loves to stay close, often following them from room to room, always wanting to be near. She is wonderfully intuitive and has a gentle way of offering comfort, including giving soft licks when she senses you may be feeling down. She adores tugging ropes, enjoys peaceful walks, and knows her commands including sit, stay, wait, and come. If you work from home, she will gladly keep you company all day, resting at your feet and watching the world go by.

Ideal Home

Dani must be the only pet in her home due to pronounced fear-based reactivity toward other dogs. She can take a little time to feel comfortable in new situations or with new people, and she can be wary with some new men at first. She would benefit from an experienced, confident pet parent who can maintain routine and provide a calm, caring environment, ideally with a fenced yard in a quieter setting. She is not a beginner’s dog.

Ongoing Health

Dani’s paws carry small scars, gentle reminders of her early chapters, but her spirit is full of warmth and loyalty. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Training & Support

Having worked extensively with a humane trainer using positive reinforcement, she thrives with structure and clear guidance. She is house-trained and respectful in the home, not engaging in destructive behaviors like chewing on furniture or personal belongings. With thoughtful introductions, she generally warms up to new people and may even engage in a bit of play before settling into calmly ignoring them. In situations where there isn’t time for a proper introduction, such as unexpected visitors or service calls to the home, she may express herself by barking.

Transportation

Dani is currently in Rutland, VT. She is open to a long-distance adoption.
