General Notes | Rex, a handsome 4-year-old Yellow Lab mix, is gentle and full of love to give. Rex loves to play with his toys and exploring outside. He is so sweet it's hard to describe and would make a great fit to any family. How could you say no to that adorable face? You'll only need to meet Rex to fall in love with him. He'll be your new best friend in less than five minutes. Rex will guarantee bring a lot of fun and love into your home. He loves going anywhere with his humans and friendly around everyone. Rex has been out on the trails and his first brewery. Rex also loves watching the neighborhood activities quietly through the window. And you'll have the cutest face waiting at the window when come home. Rex checks all the best dog companion boxes. Personality | Sweet and friendly as they come, Rex is the best guy. He does great meeting new people in a calm manner and loves getting pets from everyone. Rex will entertain himself with toys and has a really playful demeanor. He is rarely not wagging his tail. He's a giant lovebug and cuddler. I'm excited for the family who gets to adopt this great dog!

Story | Rex was picked up by animal control, roaming the streets outside of Houston this spring. This poor guy was a bit sad and lonely, and was SO excited when an AC officer offered him a seat in her truck! He was in foster with an animal control officer prior to making his way to Colorado and deserves the best life.

Other Dogs | Rex has been through a variety of environments- stray on the streets, shelter, and foster homes. Rex has no documented issues with other dogs. Since coming to Colorado, Rex primarily was interacting with dogs on leash. He appeared to have no prior leash training and this led to some stress/frustration. To help Rex work through that, he completed six weeks of leash reactivity training and did such an amazing job learning new skills and controlling his big feelings. The reactivity is now very manageable and Rex has made great strides in training. Rex needs slow intros with other dogs, but ultimately feel like he'd do really well with a dog sibling in the house.

Cats | Rex is cat friendly!

Children | Rex loves little humans and would do well in a home with them!

Training | Rex knows lots of commands. He's smart, teachable, and eager to please. Rex free roams in his foster home but doesn't get into anything and sleeps all night with no issues. Rex is crate trained as well. He can be left out unattended without any problems. Rex also travels well in the car in a soft crate. He doesn't bark much and has not displayed any destructive behaviors (besides a few plushie toys). Rex would do well with a backyard to run around in, but not a necessity.

Leash | Rex does great on walks and developed very good leash manners. He's very responsive to training, a fast learner and treat motivated.

Activity Level | Moderate.

Health Notes | Rex was previously heartworm positive, but underwent treatment and recently tested negative! He's now ready to take on the world with a family of his own!

Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $750 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file.

Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
