Penny is a gorgeous Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, weighing approximately 50 lbs and is the sweetest girl! She's about 1 year and 3 months old and was found in January 2026, fending for herself with many other dogs. Despite her tough start, she absolutely loves other dogs, big and small, and even enjoys playing gently with pigs! Penny can be a bit shy initially, but she quickly warms up to become your loyal best friend. She's very active and loves to romp and play, especially tug-o-war with her doggy pals. She also enjoys car rides and walks okay on a leash, though she'll need a bit more practice to be perfect. Penny has great recall once she's familiar with her surroundings. She's a bit of an escape artist, having once climbed a 4-foot fence, but she simply explored and then waited at the front door to be let back in! Her fosters' favorite thing about Penny is her incredible trust and sweet, loving nature, even after all she's been through.
Ideal Home
An active home with another playful dog is strongly recommended, or access to consistent doggy friends, dog parks, or daycare. Penny would love an owner who wants an adventurous shadow to go on adventures with.
Ongoing Health
Penny is heartworm positive. She has received a 30-day course of antibiotics and will need to stay on heartworm prevention for 12-16 months, followed by a retest. She is spayed, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, microchipped, and dewormed. She will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport.
Training & Support
Penny is MOSTLY house-trained and will need consistency to master it 100%. She walks okay on a leash but will need more work to become perfect.

Penny is currently located in a sanctuary in South Texas, along the Texas/Mexico border. She can be transported to the Central US and the East Coast.
