Iris is a 3.5-year-old Shepherd / Black Mouth Cur mix who weighs 47 pounds. She was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings and is now the last of her litter waiting for a forever home. Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed, making her ready to join her new family!
Ideal Home
Iris would thrive in a quieter environment, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. An adult-only home is preferred due to her fear reactivity and need for her boundaries to be respected. She would do exceptionally well with someone who works from home or in a setting with more open space, like near trails or the woods, where she can enjoy long walks and outdoor adventures.

Iris is up-to-date on all her vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained; her crate is her sanctuary, and she enters it willingly. She is also able to free-roam the home office or the entire house without accidents or destructive behavior when appropriately managed. Iris can exhibit food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so separate feeding is recommended if other dogs are in the home. She walks well on leash but can be reactive to dogs that get too close, benefiting from an owner who can create distance and set her up for success. Iris has learned basic commands like "sit," "down," and "wait." She is described as a "dog worth getting to know" with a slow approach, and once trust is established, she is deeply affectionate and loyal.

Transportation
Iris is currently in a foster home in Houston, TX. She is eligible for transport to an adopter once arrangements are made. Her foster mom is willing to transport her to potential adopters and assist with her settling-in process.
