Meet Rufio! This handsome Cane Corso mix weighs about 66 pounds, and his foster mom is diligently working to help him reach his ideal weight of 75 pounds. Rufio was rescued from the streets in early January 2026 and is learning every day that he can trust kind humans. He's a shy, quiet boy with a sweet and gentle temperament. It takes Rufio a little time to warm up to new people, but he quickly begins to follow his foster mom around the house, seeking affection, and will even hop on the couch and bed to be close to his family.
Rufio adores his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the 9-year-old son being his absolute favorite! He is a bit intimidated by his foster dad, but he has shown no aggression whatsoever. Rufio simply retreats from him, so his foster family is taking things slow. His energy level is low to medium; he enjoys evening walks, shows no reaction to other people or dogs, and is improving his leash manners, which are already quite good. He is not a vocal dog, only occasionally whimpering quietly when excited or uncertain. He does, however, emit a goofy howl when his foster mom leaves, which lasts only a couple of minutes and is quite endearing!
Ideal Home
Rufio would thrive in a patient home that can help him feel safe and loved. He would also love to have calm, well-mannered doggy friends who can help him gain confidence.
Ongoing Health
Rufio is currently underweight and is being monitored and supplemented by his foster family.
Training & Support
Rufio is house-trained and will approach the back door when he needs to go out. He does his business well in the backyard and on walks. He is crate-trained for when the family is away from home and tolerates a secured crate without issue or accidents. He sleeps through the night, alternating between his foster parents' bed and a crate in their bedroom, as long as he's near his humans.
