Charlie is an about 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog who is ready to find his forever home. He is a handsome blue-speckled boy with tan points, and while his adult size isn't guaranteed, his sire weighs 60 lbs and his dam weighs 42 lbs. Charlie is an intelligent and athletic dog with a strong drive to work, and he thrives when he has a job to do and a handler who enjoys training and challenging him. He's not content with just a walk around the block; he needs an active lifestyle that includes working him on livestock or participating in demanding dog sports.
Ideal Home
Charlie's ideal home is with an experienced handler who understands high-drive working dogs and can provide him with structure and productive outlets for his energy. He is not suited for a typical pet home where activities are limited to walks and backyard lounging. He needs a home that will actively work him or engage him in serious dog sports. While he enjoys children, interactions should be supervised due to his potential to become overstimulated. His compatibility with cats is unknown. Charlie is naturally aloof with strangers and is not a dog that enjoys accompanying his owner on social outings like trips to breweries or coffee shops.
Ongoing Health
Charlie is current on vaccinations and heartworm prevention and has had a vet check. He will receive proper vaccinations and deworming before going to his new home.
Training & Support
Charlie is house-trained and knows the "sit" command. Like many young Australian Cattle Dogs, Charlie is still building confidence. When he becomes overwhelmed or uncertain, he tends to use his mouth, and he has a history of nipping, including one incident that broke the skin. He is making progress with guidance in building confidence and learning better ways to cope with frustration. He needs an owner who enjoys being his teacher, giving him problems to solve, and channeling his drive daily. He enjoys children but interactions should always be supervised.
