JJ Ryder is a solid, athletic, and loyal dude who is down for any adventure and happy to crash hard when the day is done. He's about 4 years old, 75 lbs, and built like a dog who naturally walks beside you. JJ lives for long hikes, fetch marathons, snow days, swimming, and boat rides. Tennis balls are a non-negotiable, and he's always ready when shoes come out. After a day of activity, he's equally happy to chill, snuggle on the couch, or quietly watch your next move. JJ connects quickly with men and thrives on calm, confident leadership. He responds incredibly well to structure and bonds deeply with his person. He's smart, calm, and tuned in, already knowing a solid set of commands, and is gentle-lead trained and comes when called. While he's currently fostered with a couple and often pays more attention to the dad, he hangs at his foster mom's feet while she works from home, patiently waiting for dad to come home. He's unfazed by Home Depot trips, neighborhood walks, loud trucks, motorcycles, thunder, or fireworks. He's calm, confident, and will alert you to new people or dogs before settling. JJ gets his confidence from his #1 person and trusts you to guide him on all his adventures.

At home, JJ is fully potty trained and crate trained, meaning he can free-roam without causing trouble. He's respectful of space, not destructive, doesn't resource guard, and sleeps quietly through the night. He's affectionate without being pushy and loyal without being clingy – just a truly good dog.

JJ is currently thriving with a large male Lab and a playful small dog, but he'd be just as happy as a one-man, one-dog companion. He's best suited for an adult home or one with calm older teens. Due to his prey drive, a cat-free home is ideal. JJ isn't clingy, he's loyal. He's not loud; he's steady. He's not complicated; he's solid and perfectly suited to a man looking for a best friend and adventure-ready companion. He walks beside you, watches the yard, jumps in the boat, and chills when it's time to relax. If you're looking for a "dude's dog" that's athletic, affectionate, and utterly dependable, JJ might be your guy. We are willing to test JJ with anything you need to ensure he's the perfect match.

Transporation

JJ Ryder is located in Texas. Wags offers internal transport across the US to various states, including WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, and VT. Canadian adopters will need to pick up in Bellingham, WA, or Brattleboro, VT. Transport is available on USDA licensed vehicles with 24/7 care. An additional $87 surcharge for transport will apply due to rising fuel costs. All adoptions within Texas must be picked up from Friendswood, TX.
