Meet Benson! He's a gentle five-year-old mixed breed with a heart full of loyalty and devotion. Benson is a large, 75-pound companion whose cream coat and soulful eyes hint at his unique blend of American Pitbull Terrier, German Shepherd, Chow Chow, and other breeds. He carries himself with a thoughtful charm, blending affectionate retriever-like qualities with intelligence and awareness. Benson is a calm, low-energy dog who loves to be close to his people, whether on a car ride or snuggling on the couch. He knows many commands, including "sit," "stay," "come," "leave it," and "look at me," as well as sweet cues like "kisses" and "snuggle," making him a joy to train and connect with. His favorite activities include enrichment games, swimming, playing with a sturdy ball, and enjoying a good chew. Benson may take a moment to warm up to new people, but once he connects, he is incredibly devoted and loving. He's very intuitive and forms strong bonds, offering comfort by leaning in or curling up beside you when you need it most.
Ideal Home
Benson would thrive in a calm, structured environment with a securely fenced yard that is at least six feet tall, as he has been known to jump fences. He needs a home where he feels safe, supported, and understood. He is not compatible with cats and needs an adult-only home where his sensitive nature can shine.
Ongoing Health
Benson takes a daily medication to manage his allergies and support his emotional balance, a plan established with his behavioral vet. He also has a situational calming aid on hand for higher-stress moments like grooming.
Training & Support
Benson walks well overall but can pull on leash, so continued guidance and positive reinforcement training will help him stay focused. He is selective with other dogs and can be reactive with unfamiliar ones, requiring a thoughtful and well-managed environment. While he has experience living with multiple dogs, there has been rising tension with one particular dog in the home that led to a physical altercation. Because of this, Benson would thrive as the only dog in a home, or with a caregiver who can provide very structured, gradual introductions supported by positive reinforcement training. In his first weeks in a new home, he does best kept on leash even within the fenced yard and around doorways while he settles in.
