At 1 year old and 50 pounds, Skie is a Black Lab who is making up for lost time with full-speed enthusiasm, joyful chaos, and enough love to smother every human she meets. Skie came to rescue through an abuse case and had spent much of her young life locked in a kennel. She was severely emaciated and standing in her own urine and feces for so long that she developed painful sores on her feet. It would have been understandable if Skie came out of that experience fearful or shut down. Instead, Skie decided humans are still wonderful and life is still exciting. Because she missed out on being a carefree puppy the first time around, she’s doing it now… just in a full-grown Lab body. She runs through the house like a tiny horse wearing tap shoes, launches herself toward fun with complete commitment, and has absolutely no concept of moving quietly. If Skie is headed your way, you’ll hear her coming long before you see her. Sneaking is not one of her gifts. What is one of her gifts? Loving people. Skie wants to be with her humans as much as possible. She’s affectionate, goofy, loyal, and endlessly eager to be included in whatever is happening. She also loves other dogs and would happily spend her days playing chase, wrestling, or splashing around with canine friends. Fetch? Absolutely. Water? Skie believes all water exists specifically for her personal enjoyment. Kiddie pool, swimming pool, shower, hose, suspicious mud puddle… if it’s wet, she’s interested. Privacy while showering may become a thing of the past because Skie fully believes bathing is a team activity. Like many Labs, Skie is extremely food motivated. Like a dog who once knew hunger, she takes snacks very seriously. Treats are the fastest way to her heart and she’ll happily work for them, learn for them, and occasionally counter surf in search of bonus opportunities. Future adopters should probably not leave unattended sandwiches within nose reach unless they enjoy living dangerously. Skie is house trained and kennel trained. She’s doing wonderfully with ringing a bell to go outside and will bark to let you know she’s ready to come back in. Skie’s past was heartbreaking, but she refuses to let it define her. What defines her now is joy. Big, loud, slightly clumsy, water-loving joy. And honestly? Watching her finally get to be happy is pretty magical.
