Plum is a 2-year-old, 35lb Aussie x Heeler mix who is bursting with intelligence, drive, and enthusiasm for life! Months in a kennel have taken a tremendous toll on her, and what Plum needs is not more time behind bars, but someone who understands the heart and mind of a cattle dog. She loves other dogs, though her play style is very rough-and-tumble and can sometimes be a bit much for more sensitive canine companions. Like many under-stimulated working breeds in a stressful shelter environment, Plum is struggling. The good news? Plum is smart. Very smart. The volunteers who have spent time with her believe she is highly trainable and eager to learn. She just needs someone willing to invest the time to teach her what life outside the shelter looks like. Because of her herding instincts and tendency to nip, Plum is looking for an adult-only home or a home with older, dog-savvy teens. She would not be a good fit for cats or other small animals. Plum isn't a "plug-and-play" dog. She won't be the right fit for everyone. But for the person who understands Heelers, the person who sees the brilliance beneath the chaos and is willing to provide guidance, consistency, and an outlet for her incredible potential, Plum could become an extraordinary companion.
