Misty

Meet Misty - a playful, curious, 10-year-old terrier mix ready for her forever home! This sweet, sassy, smart, happy, easy-going, and independent gal loves her people and enjoys being part of the action. She may seem timid at first, but after a favorite toy is thrown or some ear scratches are given, she warms up pretty quickly. She will play fetch all day if you can keep up! Misty enjoys walking on leash and discovering new smells while exploring. She also likes being frequently brushed between grooming appointments. She does well when left alone or when her people are around. Misty would do well in a home that includes her in daily life.

Misty's story began in a Texas shelter, where she spent about a month battling kennel cough before coming to our rescue. After arriving at our rescue, she had surgery to remove a large chain of mammary tumors and a fatty growth near the base of her tail, all of which were thankfully benign. Now she is a healthy, happy girl who eats small meals from a slow-feed bowl to help maintain her healthy weight and routine. She does shed a little and is not hypoallergenic. Misty loves being brushed, and while she enjoys cuddles, she'd rather be playing fetch, which is her absolute favorite game. Get your tennis ball ready – she'll bring it back, place it right in your hand, and you'll see the sparkle of happiness in her eyes.

Ideal Home

Misty would thrive in a home that includes her in daily life. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for her to safely explore and stretch her legs (and of course, play fetch!).

Ongoing Health

Misty has some IVDD (intervertebral disk disease), which causes a bit of weakness in her back legs. She is currently fostered in a ranch-style home setting and will need to take it slow when adjusting to going up and down stairs as she continues to strengthen her back legs each day.

Training & Support

Misty is leash-trained and enjoys exploring the world. She makes a great road trip companion, settling nicely and tethered in the back seat. She is extremely smart and was quick to learn basic commands and "let's go" for going in/outside. She is crate-trained and housebroken. She does not jump on furniture or people. She recognizes her harness/leash and knows when it's time for a walk. She loves showing off her newest outfit; she's quite the fashionista. Her new family will need to gently encourage her moderate activities while building her strength.

Misty is currently fostered in Texas. Transportation is available to approved adopters.
