Blake Shelton is a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees/Saint Bernard mix who joined us with his mother, Willow. He's a 95 lb teddy bear who absolutely adores attention and is eager to please. Blake loves belly rubs and will happily roll over to show you his tummy, hoping for a good scratch. He's a very calm boy and gets along well with other dogs. He enjoys his walks and a good brushing.
Ideal Home
We recommend obedience training for all newly adopted Pyrs to help you create a special bond and ensure a well-behaved companion. Great Pyrenees are willing to learn but are independent thinkers, so they may not be as eager to comply with commands as some other breeds. Applicants must be over 25, own their own home, and all children in the household must be over 6 years old. Your resident pets must be up-to-date on vaccines, sterilized, and you must have a good history of vet care for them for the past two years, along with consistent year-round heartworm preventative use and proof of purchase. Blake will be an inside pet with outside privileges and requires a securely fenced yard accessible from your home. Invisible fencing is not suitable for this breed, as they are known to endure the shock for the sake of freedom. Great Pyrenees are bred to roam and will create their own territory if not secured, which can lead to them getting lost, hit by vehicles, or perceived as a threat. This breed cannot be trusted off-leash.

Application Details:
- Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
- Complete the appropriate application on our website, www.igpr.org under the Adopt tab.
- All dogs marked as needing foster homes are also available for adoption.
- We require you complete the adoption application prior to meeting a dog.
- We offer a foster-to-adopt program, where you foster the dog and have first right of refusal.
- If fostering, the dog comes up-to-date on vaccines. You may need to transport the dog for follow-up vaccines and sterilization, depending on age. You provide food and grooming, and we provide heartworm preventative and medical care if needed (with IGPR approval).
- If adopting, we cannot guarantee the dog will be groomed prior to pickup.
- We offer a two-week trial period, during which either party can cancel the adoption. You are responsible for any veterinary expenses incurred during the trial period unless you notify us prior to a vet visit.
- You may request grooming prior to pickup at your expense, which may delay the trial period.
- Adoption fee is $350 and is due at the time of pickup.
