Meet Moose, a handsome white and tan Shih Tzu mix with a heart full of love and a hopeful spirit. At approximately 2 years old and 18 pounds, Moose is looking for a patient, loving family to help him write the next chapter of his story. Moose's journey hasn't been an easy one. He was found abandoned, his coat so severely matted that it was tangled down to his skin. It was clear he had been neglected and left without the care every dog deserves. Despite everything he's been through, Moose has remained remarkably sweet, trusting, and ready to love again. This happy, friendly little guy enjoys meeting people and does well with other well-mannered dogs. He also gets along with cats and would much rather be their friend than chase them. While he'd enjoy having a canine companion, he's equally happy soaking up all the attention as your one and only pup. Moose is potty trained, loves daily walks, and can often be found carrying around a squeaky toy. He's incredibly food motivated and already learning basic commands like "sit"—proof that he's a smart cookie who enjoys learning. When the day is done, Moose's favorite place is right beside you on the couch, where he'll gently nudge you for more pets if you dare stop too soon. He sleeps quietly in a pen overnight and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. Moose does, however, need a home committed to continuing his training, particularly when it comes to managing some mild resource guarding. Because of this, he is looking for an adult-only home where his family can provide consistency, patience, and understanding as he continues to work through the effects of his past and learn that he is finally safe. Underneath it all is a loving, loyal dog who simply wants a family of his own. Moose has so much love to give and is searching for a gentle, compassionate home that will give him the patience, security, and affection he has always deserved.
