Odin came to us having had both of his eyes removed at the shelter as they were in extremely rough shape with several issues. He was a stray that came in with another dog, but his buddy had to be humanely euthanized due to a tumor. Odin seems okay with other dogs, but since he has completely lost his eyes, he needs a little time to get used to them. He seems to prefer female dogs over male dogs so far; though the male dog he was near was intact and recently neutered, which may have affected the energy. But Odin LOVES people and is such a sweet love to humans!
Odin has adjusted GREAT to life without his eyes, much better than a human would, and gets around amazingly! He likes to be outside, but truly he likes to be where he knows and can sense you are near. He comes to his name, and you can guide him along verbally. His hearing seems to be intact. He does need to lose some weight, so we are hoping that being more active now that his sutures have come out and he has been cleared to be active will help! He also seems to be mostly potty trained now that he has gotten used to the routine and walks well on a leash, and is easy to redirect and walk along! He can be vocal when you leave him, and we did have him on Trazodone when he first came to us with lots of crying and pacing happening, but again, now that he has learned the routine, that seems to be diminishing, and we have since taken him off Trazodone, though he may need it to get used to a new home. He also may not like being behind barriers as an Australian Shepherd, so that could also not be helping! But he does seem to have some separation anxiety that we feel is getting better. Because he can be vocal, we don't think he would be appropriate in an apartment setting.
Ideal Home
Odin would do best in a home where he can be with his people. He may not do well in an apartment setting due to his vocal nature.
Ongoing Health
Odin had both eyes removed due to severe issues. He is currently working on losing weight.
Training & Support
Odin is mostly potty trained and walks well on a leash. He may have some separation anxiety and can be vocal when left alone, but this is improving. He may benefit from Trazodone to help him adjust to a new home. He may also not like being behind barriers.
