Rac, the raccoony pooch

Meet Rac! He's an outgoing and active Husky Mix, weighing 62 lbs, with an estimated birthdate of 3/11/2023. Rac earned his name from his adorable raccoon-like markings and he truly embodies his playful spirit! He's a happy guy who loves to zoom with his dog friends and engage in toy time with his foster dad. Rac enjoys long walks and new adventures, and while he's a bit shy about getting into a car, he absolutely loves the ride once he's in! With a little patience and TLC, Rac's initial shyness will fade, revealing a loyal best friend.

Rac was rescued from a severe winter freeze after being found roaming without shelter. A kind neighbor had been feeding him, but couldn't provide a home. Fortunately, Rac's fate took a turn for the better when his foster dad heard about him and stepped in to rescue him. He even spent some time with a trainer to help him transition from street life to being an indoor companion. Rac is now thriving in his foster home with his fun dog siblings, but he's a bit too energetic for kitties. His foster dad describes him as very sweet and a big fan of attention.

Ideal Home

Rac would thrive in an active home where he can go on hikes, play with energetic canine companions, and cuddle with his loved ones. He enjoys trying new things and is a great travel buddy! He is looking for a family who can offer him patience and unconditional love. He is too energetic for cats.

Ongoing Health

Rac is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered.

Training & Support

Rac is kennel and potty trained. He is also dog friendly. He received extra support and guidance from a trainer to help him adjust to indoor living.

Application Details:

• Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
• We coordinate with multiple transport services that operate weekly to Eastern states and bi-weekly or monthly to Western states from Texas to your state or a neighboring state. These are ground transports using third-party vehicles (vans/buses) converted for dog transport. Each adopter has the ability to track the van using the app Life360, and receives updates from transport along the way. Facebook chats are another resource to stay informed on tracking dogs on transport. Please be able to use one of these available services if you wish to follow your adopted dog on transport.
• Our adoption fees are based on the vetting we put into each dog. Fees for puppies (under 12 months) are higher because they require more vetting than dogs over 1 year.
• Listed breed is based on a best guess estimation by rescue and veterinary staff; DNA tests are not included in adoption.
• Our adopters are eligible to receive 50% off training with Curbed Behaviors Dog Training for programs booked within 30 days of adoption, and 25% off programs booked within 60-90 days of adoption.
• All of our adopters are invited to join our Alum Pupdates Facebook group, to share their story and their adorable pup with fellow Sunnyside Street Dogs adopters!

Transportation

Rac is located in Houston, Texas. Transport is included in the adoption fee. Please note that pickup locations for transported dogs may vary, including to nearby towns or states.
