About Chico Diablo

Chico Diablo is a stunning black and tan Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He's lean, muscular, and athletic, with a love for playing with balls and enjoying the outdoors. Chico is affectionate and can be a bit clingy with his foster family, always seeking attention and pets. He's already crate-trained and sleeps soundly in his crate overnight. He's also leash-trained and knows basic commands, responding well to verbal cues. This sweet and spicy Doberman is a true family dog who will truly thrive in the right home.

Ideal Home

Chico would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard where he can safely exercise and play. He would be comfortable with another dog, preferably a medium to large female, but this is not a requirement. Due to Chico's sensitivity to having his collar grabbed, we do not recommend a home with small children, as he may react defensively to protect himself. He is also sensitive to yelling and is not a dominant personality.

Ongoing Health

Chico is neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccines, has been treated for heartworm, and is on prevention. He has reached a healthy weight, boasts a shiny coat, and is very food-motivated.

Training & Support

Chico is crate trained, house trained, and leash trained. He may bark at noises, alarms, and people outside his property. He was initially found to be 'nippy' and would avoid petting, using his teeth without puncturing skin to create space when his collar was grabbed. This behavior is believed to be a reaction to past improper handling. We've been working with him on touching his neck and gentle collar pulls. He needs confident owners who can establish clear boundaries for his safety. Muzzle training for vet visits with strangers may be beneficial. We do not recommend dog parks or a home with another male dog, as he can react negatively (fence fighting, barking, growling) to larger male dogs. He is, however, submissive, gentle, and playful with female dogs. He has not been tested with cats or small animals.

Chico is currently being fostered in Texas. His adoption fee includes transport via van to the Midwest or the NJ-VA-VT states through our pet transport partners.
