Diego is a handsome 2-year-old boy, weighing around 60 lbs, who has overcome a lot and is ready for his second chance at a loving forever home. He was surrendered by his previous owner and found himself in a difficult situation. Thankfully, a rescue affiliate stepped in and saved him. Diego was fully vetted and began treatment for heartworms, which the rescue is covering. He was even adopted to a family, but sadly, it wasn't the right fit. Now, he's with a temporary foster who is helping him learn and grow. Despite his past, Diego is a smart, affectionate, and loyal dog who loves people and is eager to learn. He is house-trained, knows basic commands like sit, down, bed, and go, and is great with adults and children.
Ideal Home
Diego would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard, as he has a high prey drive and is a fence-scaling jumper. Because of his prey drive, he cannot be in a home with cats. He can be good with dogs his size with slow introductions, but he can get overstimulated around other animals.
Ongoing Health
Diego is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which the rescue is covering.
Training & Support
Diego is still learning basic leash manners and needs a committed adopter who understands that healing from past neglect takes time, patience, and consistency. He has a very high prey drive and can be reactive to other animals due to overstimulation and survival instincts, so he will need continued guidance in managing these behaviors.
