Meet Stewart! This handsome 11-year-old Beagle is a true survivor and ready for a loving home. In December 2020, Stewart experienced a ruptured disc and underwent spinal surgery. While he was unable to walk initially, he has since healed and is now actively participating in therapy, regaining his strength, and even starting to walk again! Stewart is currently considered special needs and uses wheels to get around, but with continued therapy and a dedicated family, he has the potential to walk fully again. Before his medical journey, Stewart arrived emaciated but is now healthy and eager to find his forever family. He's a vocal boy with a strong "beagle nose," so he'll need a home that understands and can manage his exuberance.
Ideal Home
Stewart needs a patient and understanding home that can support his ongoing recovery and therapy. He would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore without his nose leading him astray. He would not be a good fit for an apartment, townhome, or subdivision and would thrive in a location with a bit more land due to his vocal nature. He is good with dogs his size and prefers female companions.
Ongoing Health
Stewart is a special needs dog due to a past spinal injury. He is undergoing physical therapy and is regaining his ability to walk. He will require continued therapy and support in his adoptive home.
Training & Support
Stewart will need patience and continued work on house training and socialization. His vocal nature may also require some management.
