Missy is a sweet and spirited 6-year-old, 15-pound terrier mix who is searching for her forever home. She arrived at the shelter as a stray and, despite her initial shyness, quickly bonded with the staff. Missy is a resilient girl who has faced unexpected challenges with grace. She had a benign lump removed and, sadly, has developed Panuveitis, an autoimmune disease that has caused her to become blind. She is currently undergoing treatment with steroids and her long-term prognosis will be clearer after her follow-up appointment.
Ideal Home
Missy would thrive in a home that offers structure and routine. She's an active and excitable dog who loves listening to birds, car rides, and cuddling on the couch. She enjoys playing with toys and can be a bit of a barker when guarding her home from perceived threats like squirrels. While she previously chased cats and small animals, her blindness may allow her to coexist with a cat who can gently correct her. She would do best with a compatible canine companion who can help her navigate her new world and keep up with her energy.
Ongoing Health
Missy has Panuveitis, an autoimmune disease causing blindness. She is currently on steroids, and her prognosis will be updated after her veterinary appointment on April 22, 2026. She is not contagious to other dogs.
Training & Support
Missy walks excitedly on leash and enjoys meeting new people. She is housebroken and considers her crate a safe space. She can be a dominant dog, so a confident and compatible canine friend would be beneficial. She enjoys digging and snuggling in your lap.
