Cherry is a delightful and resilient young lady who journeyed to us all the way from Kentucky. She arrived at a rural animal control last December with a condition known as "cherry eye" in both of her eyes. While this condition can look concerning, it's typically not painful. It occurs when the gland of a dog's third eyelid slips out of place. In Cherry's case, it had worsened over time, likely due to a lack of resources for her previous owners to address it. Thankfully, compassionate volunteers pooled their resources to get Cherry's eyes treated, and she's now healed and a joy to behold! You might also notice some patchy areas in her coat in some photos. This is likely a result of untreated demodex mites, which are not contagious and are something all pups are born with. Dogs usually live in harmony with these mites, but stress or surgery can sometimes weaken a dog's immune system, allowing the mites to become more prominent. This condition is easily treatable, and Cherry is already well on her way to regrowing a beautiful, soft, and shiny brindle coat. Despite her past challenges, Cherry remains one of the happiest and most spirited dogs we've ever met! She's incredibly enthusiastic about making new friends, both human and canine. She's a dainty girl, weighing around 35 lbs, making her easy to handle on a leash and a delight to watch as she runs. She seems as light as air, darting around our play yard with unmatched speed. Her favorite game is "chase" – and she always wins, as no dog can catch her! We can't wait to see Cherry find the happy ending she so richly deserves.

Cherry is enthusiastic about making new dog friends and is light enough to be handled easily on a leash.
Ongoing Health
Cherry has had treatment for "cherry eye" in both eyes and is now healed. Her patchy coat is due to demodex mites, which are easily treatable, and her coat is already growing back beautifully. She is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and heartworm negative.
