About Sugar

Sugar is a sweet, shy shepherd who was found abandoned in a blueberry field in March 2024 at approximately 9 months old. She spent two years in a shelter before finding a temporary foster home in April 2026. Sugar was the most fearful of her littermates and has had limited positive interactions with humans. She is not aggressive, but she needs a patient adopter who can provide her with the routine, structure, and stability she craves. Sugar would likely do best as the only dog in the home, allowing her to bond more deeply with her people.

Ideal Home

Sugar loves to play with other large, confident dogs. She has a slight prey drive, so she should not live with small dogs, cats, or small farm animals. She would thrive in a home that offers her space and patience to grow at her own pace, without pressure. A detached adult home in a quiet, rural area with a fully fenced yard would be ideal. Apartments are not suitable for Sugar.

Ongoing Health

Sugar is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and flea treated.

Training & Support

Sugar is still building confidence with urban noises, particularly loud trucks, but she is making daily progress. She is calm, well-behaved, and unfazed by barking dogs. She enjoys on-leash walks and playing fetch, and is also happy to entertain herself. Sugar is an independent dog who is not clingy, making her a wonderfully balanced companion. Her adopter should have realistic expectations for her and understand that any move to a new environment will cause stress, requiring her to decompress and readjust before moving forward.
