Meet Koia, a one-year-old Pit/Bully mix weighing 60 pounds. Koia is a big-hearted girl with a sensitive soul who is just beginning to discover what a safe and loving world can look like. She came to us after being surrendered from a severely neglectful situation where she had gone seven days without food. Tragically, there were also deceased dogs on the property, and it’s clear Koia has had very little positive exposure to the world around her. Because of this, everything is still new and sometimes overwhelming for her—but she is trying. Despite her past, Koia is a strong, affectionate "tank" of a dog with a sweet and goofy personality starting to shine through. When she gets excited, she bursts into joyful zoomies, and she absolutely loves treats, which makes her highly motivated for training and building trust. Once she feels safe, Koia reveals a softer side—she enjoys affection and has a surprising love for being close to her people, even leaning into lap time when she feels secure. Koia needs a calm, understanding home that will help her continue learning that the world isn’t so scary. In return, she offers resilience, loyalty, and the beginnings of a truly special bond with someone willing to give her the time she’s always deserved.

Ongoing Health

Training & Support
Koia is not yet comfortable on a leash and can be a strong puller, so she’ll need a patient adopter willing to teach her at her pace with gentle, consistent guidance. She is highly motivated by treats, which will be a great asset in training.
