Meet Loofah! She's a 10-month-old, 12-pound Maltese mix with wispy white fur, expressive eyes, and the sweetest little face. Loofah came to us from a breeder release situation, and she's still learning what it means to be a cherished family companion. Because she missed out on early socialization, Loofah can be nervous around people and is still learning to feel comfortable with touch and being picked up. Though she’s timid at first, there’s a gentle and loving little personality beginning to shine through. Loofah finds the most comfort in the company of other dogs and truly blossoms when she has canine friends nearby. Her favorite thing in the world? Snacks, of course! Nothing gets Loofah’s tiny tail wagging faster than mealtime or a tasty treat. Those happy little moments give a glimpse of the playful, trusting pup she’s slowly becoming.
Ideal Home
Loofah would thrive in a home with a calm, confident dog who can help her feel safe and teach her that the world isn’t such a scary place. A securely fenced yard will help her feel safe while she explores and builds confidence, and a quiet environment will give her the reassurance she needs to continue making progress.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are noted in the listing.
Training & Support
Loofah is scared of human touch and will need an adopter that is able to provide her a safe place and help her confidence grow. This may look like containing her to a smaller enclosed area in a room in the home for several days to a week, where she would have an area to potty, so that she can more easily and safely be picked up. She will want to run/avoid being picked up. She will also initially be a flight risk, so taking her outside to potty will not be safe for at least several weeks. Eventually, when she does fully trust you and have a strong bond with you, bringing her outside should consist of 2 leashes and tightly secured collars (with possibly a no slip harness lead) to help ensure she cannot get away.
