MEET CANELA ✨
A beautiful and resilient likely Baja mix with the sweetest heart and an incredible spirit 🤎 Canela’s story began when we saw a Facebook post about a dog wandering in a neighborhood on the outskirts of La Paz. When we found her, she was shy and cautious but didn’t run away. As she walked we noticed she was limping and unable to use her front left leg. During her veterinary exams Canela tested positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma, two tick-borne illnesses common in this region. She completed treatment successfully and is now fully recovered. X-rays later confirmed a brachial plexus avulsion, meaning the nerves in her leg were permanently damaged and she would never regain function. Because the leg would eventually drag and cause wounds and pain, the veterinary team decided the best option for her wellbeing was amputation. Today Canela is a happy tripod dog who has completely adapted to life on three legs. She runs, plays, walks, and enjoys life just like any other dog. Her condition does not limit her and she does not require special care beyond the love any dog deserves. She is a female, approximately 4 years old, likely a Baja mix, weighing around 40 lbs. Canela is spayed, fully vaccinated (Rabies, Annual, Bordetella), dewormed, and on flea and tick prevention. She is sweet and affectionate, calm and gentle, friendly with people, and sociable with other dogs. Canela has a medium to low energy, is curious and playful, and is very peaceful with other dogs and enjoys their company.
Ideal Home
Canela would thrive in a loving and patient home with daily walks and outdoor time. She would do great with other friendly dogs but could also be happy as the only dog. Despite having three legs, Canela lives a completely normal life. She walks well on leash, rides calmly in the car, and enjoys relaxing both indoors and outdoors.
Ongoing Health
