Rufus has the kindest eyes and a scruffy face that will melt your heart. This 2-year-old, 15 lb neutered Yorkie/Lhasa Apso mix is ready to leave his past behind and find a family to love him forever. Rufus is currently a bit underweight and is expected to reach a healthy 18-20 lbs. He's been through a lot, having been abandoned at an apartment complex and left to fend for himself. Thankfully, a kind person stepped in and got him to safety until rescue could take him. Despite his difficult start, Rufus remains incredibly sweet, trusting, and eager to love. He is the definition of a "Velcro dog," his favorite place is right by your side, whether that's on the couch, following you from room to room, or on your lap. He's affectionate, gentle, and has a happy, easygoing nature. Rufus is wonderful with other dogs and respects their space, but he's also happy to be an only dog if he receives plenty of attention from his humans. He walks beautifully on a leash without pulling and shows no reactivity towards people or other dogs. Rufus also rides well in the car and enjoys watching the world go by. He's crate trained and settles quietly. Like many young dogs, he sometimes offers gentle play nibbles and is still working on house training, though this is expected to improve with a consistent routine and after being neutered. Rufus has a moderate energy level, enjoying walks and adventures before happily settling down for a cuddle. He forms deep bonds and truly wants to be a part of the family. As a Yorkie/Lhasa Apso mix, Rufus will need regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and free of mats.
