Axel

Axel is a handsome ~2-year-old, 54 lb Boxer mix with the confidence of a dog who knows where the treats are hidden and assumes you'll eventually catch up. He's athletic and built for adventure, but his true calling is companionship and a predictable routine. Axel was found abandoned, a mystery to us given his wonderful personality. His loss is definitely your gain! He approaches life with enthusiasm, and while his walks might start with a bit of excitement, he settles into a happy exploration once he realizes he's on his way somewhere. He loves to survey his surroundings and has a knack for finding "important" objects to carry, whether it's a stick, a rope, or even a leash.

Axel is a practical learner who is highly motivated by food. He thrives with clear and consistent guidance, needing a calm and confident owner who can appreciate his independent spirit. He's looking for direction, not drama. He's friendly with people but takes a moment to assess them before deciding they pass the vibe check. He'd do best with older children who understand personal space and adults who appreciate a dog with a distinct personality.

He's social with other dogs and enjoys the company of his canine friends, especially those of the opposite sex. While he enjoys playing with other dogs, he can be a bit bossy, not in an aggressive way, but rather with a strong belief that he should be in charge. He prefers calmer environments and is happiest when he doesn't have to manage a lot of social activity. Axel is not a fan of cats.

At home, Axel is a well-behaved boy who is potty trained, crate trained, and knows how to settle down once his needs are met. He has a moderate energy level; daily walks and some playtime keep him balanced, after which he's content to relax and keep you company. Apartment living could work for him with consistent exercise, but he would also be thrilled to have a yard to patrol.

Axel is currently being fostered in Texas and will be transported to his perfect forever home by our rescue. Transports depart each week.
