Vaquero is a 5-year-old, 46 lb Black Mouth Cur mix who was found in a dire state in Edinburg, Texas, near the border. He arrived with severe mange, very little hair, and was painfully thin, a heartbreaking sight that spurred a remarkable transformation. Once a timid dog, Vaquero has made a complete 180 and is now a happy, social boy who adores attention and interaction. He has no long-term health effects from his past ordeal. Vaquero gets along wonderfully with other dogs, both large and small, and has also been known to do well with cats. He'd be a great companion for a home with older, gentle children, as he loves to relax and hang out, making him the ultimate "Netflix and chill" kind of dog. Treats and naps are his specialty! He also enjoys car rides and gazing out the window. Vaquero is house-trained and eager for a loving, forever home.
Ideal Home
Vaquero would do well in a home with older, gentle children, as he prefers a relaxed atmosphere over high-energy play. He enjoys the company of other dogs and is reportedly good with cats.
Ongoing Health
Vaquero is neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, and dewormer. He will receive a clean bill of health from a veterinarian prior to transport.

Vaquero is currently fostered in Texas. We do not adopt within Texas due to the high euthanasia rates. We adopt to the Central US and the East Coast. The adoption fee includes transport from Texas to the locations listed below, which occurs every 2-3 weeks.
