Lily is an 8-year-old, 79-pound female who is completely deaf. She was adopted from our rescue five years ago and adored her dad. When he passed away, her world was devastated. She was eventually returned to us after his wife could no longer care for her due to her own grief. Lily bonded quickly and deeply with Michelle, a volunteer, and later with Michelle's friend, Adam. This reminded us that Lily just needs patience, understanding, and the chance to move at her own pace. When given these things, she learns to trust.
We believed we had found her forever home, but unfortunately, Lily is once again searching for a home. While we refuse to rush Lily into the wrong situation, the reality is that she does need a new home, and time is not on her side. Lily loves deeply and once she trusts you, she gives you her whole heart. She follows her person everywhere, sleeps pressed against them, always wants to be close, and if she can be touching you, she will. When Lily feels safe and happy, she has the sweetest smile that melts your heart.
We want to be completely transparent about her needs. Lily is deaf and must be the only pet. She forms incredibly deep bonds with her people and struggles with separation anxiety. After everything she has been through, she becomes anxious when separated from her person and will bark when she feels worried, stressed, or uncertain. She is not destructive.
We consulted with an incredible trainer, Jeff, who believes Lily's anxiety can be successfully managed with commitment, consistency, structure, support, and the right tools. At 8 years old, the goal isn't perfection, but helping Lily feel safe, secure, and understood. Jeff has generously offered to work directly with Lily's future adopter, providing guidance, support, and tools to help them successfully manage her anxiety and continue building her confidence. Our rescue will cover the cost of that support because we want both Lily and her future family set up for success.
As part of our Forever Foster Program, we will also cover all approved medical expenses beyond routine wellness care for the rest of Lily's life.
