My name is Hank Williams, named after the legendary country singer! I'm a handsome guy, guessed to be around 3 years old and weighing in at about 20 pounds. I came to DDRTX from a hoarding situation as part of a group called "The Country Music Stars," and I'm just beginning to learn what a loving and safe home feels like. It's a big adjustment, but I'm making so much progress!
I can be a bit of a paradox right now. When I trust you, I'm incredibly affectionate, wiggly, and love to shower you with kisses. However, anything unexpected – a loud noise, a sudden movement, or a new/untrusted person – can send me right back into a fearful state. I'll hide and bark to protect myself. Meeting new people is scary for me, so I'll need to be on a secure harness when we go outside, as I'm quite skittish.
Ideal Home
My ideal home would have a confident, playful canine sibling to romp with – I really love playing with my foster brother! I also have a bit of a struggle with men. Even if I've met them many times, I tend to run away and bark at them if they try to interact with me. So, a home without men, or with a very patient man who understands my needs, would be best.
Ongoing Health
I'm currently being treated for heartworms, so I need to take it easy and not go on long walks just yet.
Training & Support
I've only had a couple of accidents in the house, which is pretty good considering my past! I'm mostly house-trained, but I'll need patience as I get used to a new place and routine. I also get anxious around meal times and tend to eat very fast, sometimes stealing from other dogs and occasionally throwing up. A slow-feed bowl is a great tool for me! My relationship with my crate is a bit complicated. I used to be scared to come out, but now I don't always want to go in, especially for bedtime, though I will go in to eat. I'm starting to be more curious and enjoy investigating things like the dishwasher and looking out windows. I'm a bit jumpy outside and am still a little afraid of having my harness put on, but I'm improving.
