Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound handsome Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love and a need for a calm, understanding home. My journey started a bit rough, as I was found as a puppy with my siblings. While they all found homes, I stayed with the person who loved me most. This early experience has left me with some anxiety, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it. I'm neutered, house-trained, and on medication to help manage my anxiety. I can be a little shy with new people, but once I build trust, I form a very deep bond. I'm incredibly gentle with the baby in my current home, but I haven't been around other children. I've done well with other dogs when boarded, but I haven't lived with them. I'm not a fan of cats. I'm a playful, smart boy who knows commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I truly want to please. I just need a patient guide to help me navigate the world. My anxiety can manifest as protectiveness, and I might bark or growl at strangers. Crates are scary for me, and I'm most comfortable when I have access to just one room when left alone. I'm looking for a home that understands fear-based behaviors and can provide structure, confidence, and clear, gentle boundaries. I'm not the right fit for a first-time dog owner or someone who is timid. I promise to be loyal, loving, and playful once I feel safe with you.
Ideal Home
Odie would do best in a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. He needs a household without young children under 14 years of age. He is not a match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner.
Ongoing Health
Odie is neutered and is currently on Reconcile to help manage his anxiety.
Training & Support
Odie can become overstimulated and redirect his energy. He has had a single bite incident when his owner was pulling him away from the screen door as he was barking at the mailman, and Odie turned and bit her hand. Odie would do best going to a home that will provide him with training to teach him that he can relax around strangers and does not need to defend the household. He struggles with the crate and can be overwhelmed when left alone. When left alone, he does best with access to just one room.
