Meet Onyx, a delightful 7-year-old Chi-Dachshund mix who weighs around 20lbs. This sweet girl has a wonderfully calm and gentle spirit, and her charming personality is sure to bring smiles to your face every day. Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and up-to-date on all her preventatives, making her ready to find the loving forever home she truly deserves.
Onyx's journey to us likely wasn't the easiest. She was rescued from the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter in Houston, and since then, she's been proving just how special she is. She's currently being fostered in San Antonio, but with the right approved adopter, she can be transported out of state.
Ideal Home
Because Onyx is a more mature lady with a touch of arthritis, she thrives in a home that embraces a slower pace. A semi-active to low-activity household would be ideal, where she can enjoy short walks and plenty of restful downtime. She does love a good stroll and will happily amble along until she's had her fill of exercise, after which she's ready to settle in for some much-appreciated neck scratches, belly rubs, and a cozy nap. She has done well with respectful children ages 7-12 and would do best with older, dog-savvy children.
Ongoing Health
Onyx is a more mature dog and has a bit of arthritis. She is spayed, vaccinated, and up to date on all her preventatives.
Training & Support
Onyx is house-trained, sleeps in her crate at night by choice, and can be crated for up to 10 hours if needed. She does not exhibit resource guarding or food aggression and can be trusted to roam the house unsupervised without being destructive. While generally good with other dogs, she can get a little excited on leash when greeting new dog friends.
