About Jakob
Meet Jakob! This handsome fellow is a bit of a mystery with a few quirks that have us looking for a very special adopter. We've taken the time to get to know him, and while there are some things to be mindful of, there's so much wonderfulness to uncover! Jakob needs a dog-savvy individual who understands how to avoid his triggers and help him build confidence in his new life.
He has some past experiences that have made him wary of certain situations. He's shown a tendency to snap when being put into a small crate or kennel, likely due to a negative past experience. We recommend a positive approach where he can choose to enter the crate with a high-value item inside, allowing him to learn it's a safe space. Jakob also guards his food and toys. He can be fed solo in his crate without issue and isn't aggressive towards humans once settled. Toy guarding can be managed by either having no toys out or providing a variety of options. He's smart and can be traded for a treat, showing that with patience, this behavior can improve.
But now for the truly amazing part about Jakob! He walks beautifully on a leash and loves to greet people. He absolutely adores affection – ear scratches, chin scratches, back rubs, you name it, he loves it all! Jakob takes treats so gently and is so appreciative of your kindness. His trust is easily earned through building that affectionate bond. He's also dog-friendly and has enjoyed playing with puppies, though it's still important to be mindful of his food and toy guarding in a group setting. He's a polite lap sitter, happy to lounge with you and people-watch. He loves to be your shadow and enjoys running around the yard and playing fetch. Jakob responds well to gentle corrections and genuinely wants to please. He deserves a fresh start and a chance to shine.

Jakob would thrive in a home with a patient and understanding adopter who is knowledgeable about dog behavior. He needs someone willing to work with him on his crate and resource guarding through positive reinforcement.
