Meet Penny, a delightful 2-year-old, 62-pound spayed female Shepherd/Husky mix with a heart full of love and a spirit that shines! Penny is a fun-loving, affectionate, and outgoing girl who thrives in an environment where she can stay active, engaged, and close to her people. Her curiosity and social nature mean she's always ready for her next adventure or a good cuddle. She is a smart, sensitive soul eager to bond deeply with her forever family.
Ideal Home
Penny would thrive in a home that provides structure, patience, and understanding. She'd do best in a home with older teens or adults who understand dog behavior and can help her channel her energy positively. A cat-free home is recommended due to observed prey-driven behavior outdoors. She also does best with confident, medium-to-large dogs who are comfortable setting healthy boundaries, as she can be a bit exuberant during play with smaller or more timid dogs. She is still learning to be fully comfortable with separation and prefers to be close to her people.
Ongoing Health
Penny is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. She can flinch easily and shows signs of needing reassurance and calm, consistent care, suggesting she may have experienced past trauma.
Training & Support
Penny is fully house-trained and has done well when confined to a designated area when home alone, though she is still learning separation comfort. She has not been crate trained and prefers to be near her people, which may result in whining or barking when separated. She can be trusted loose in the house if items are put away, but she may chew on dog beds when bored. Penny can be protective of her space and high-value items around other dogs, requiring management during mealtimes and treat times. These behaviors are manageable with clear boundaries and respectful guidance, and she has made great progress in her foster home. She is leash-trained and enjoys walks, hikes, and sniffy adventures, and would benefit from consistent mental and physical outlets for her energy.
