Meet Ernie, a charming 8-year-old Pittie/Cattle Dog mix who currently weighs around 63lbs. Ernie is a neutered male with a heart of gold, found wandering alone and thankfully rescued by his foster mom. Despite being microchipped, his previous owner did not wish to reclaim him. Ernie was initially adopted from a county shelter in 2020 and was clearly well-loved, showing no signs of heartworm and having a friendly demeanor with everyone he meets. He’s a true gem, and we’re eager to help him find his forever family.
Ideal Home
Ernie is a wonderfully adaptable companion who would thrive in many types of homes. He's a social butterfly who enjoys being wherever you are. He gets excited to meet other dogs and is a gentle playmate, happy to go with the flow. Ernie has a good rapport with smaller dogs and seems to tolerate cats, showing interest without aggression. While he hasn't been formally introduced to children, his gentle nature suggests he'd do well with them, provided they understand he's a larger dog. He would be a great fit for a family with or without other pets, an older couple, or even first-time dog owners.
Ongoing Health
Ernie is currently heartworm negative.
Training & Support
Ernie is house-trained and walks beautifully on a leash. He is not a fan of crates and will attempt to escape. However, he does not exhibit destructive behavior when left unsupervised. If he knows you are home while he is in his crate, he may whine or howl for a short period but can be soothed with treats or verbal reassurance.
