Meet Benny! Benny is an adorable, 3-year-old, 11 lb Chihuahua / Jack Russell Terrier mix who is just a big ol' sweetie pie! Benny's journey started in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he was found as a stray and brought to a busy shelter. As you can imagine, that environment can feel pretty overwhelming for a small dog, and Benny was understandably scared. But even through all of that, he showed everyone just how kind and sweet he is at his core. Since arriving to Colorado and settling into his foster home, Benny has been doing exactly what we hoped he would do: settling in and getting lots of snuggles! His true personality is already starting to shine through!
Benny is such a sweet, sweet boy! It took him a bit to adjust (probably 5-7 days until he wasn't so shy and really warmed up), but now he's doing SO well and he's eating all his meals and a lot more cuddly now than when I first got him. He LOVES walks and playing in the yard. He warms up to new people fast when they give him treats, and never barks at new people! He is totally potty trained! YAY! He hasn't had any accidents in my house which has been awesome! He did great in the crate when left alone for the first few days, and now he's comfortable leaving him to roam around the main floor and just blocking off the stairs. He doesn't bark or whine when I leave, just chills on the couch the whole time. He has moments where he is very playful, but most of the time he's just a cuddly, mellow guy.
Ideal Home
Benny would thrive with an adopter who has a yard for him to play with, and is active and wants to take him on hikes. Benny would thrive with a retired adopter or someone who works from home would be absolutely ideal for him, as he truly enjoys having his person nearby and a predictable routine.
Ongoing Health
Benny is up to date on his vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is neutered.
Training & Support
We'd like to place Benny in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice.
Application Details:
- Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
- Applications are currently being accepted for Benny.
- If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. Adoption site applications don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our adoption application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.
Transportation
Benny is located in Colorado and can be transported to approved adopters.
